MacDonald Hotel and Cabins
The MacDonald Hotel and Cabins, Kinlochleven is situated at the foot of the Mamore Mountains, at the head of Loch Leven, providing a stunningly beautiful setting, which was selected to open the latest Rob Roy movie.
Loch Leven and the River Leven form the glen between its more famous neighbours Glen Coe and Ben Nevis. The MacDonald Hotel is on the northwestern edge of the village of Kinlochleven, where the West Highland Way begins its climb towards Fort William.
Outdoor enthusiasts may find these facilities useful:
The drying room is a secure room located behind the Bothy Bar facing the cabins and campsite. It contains an industrial de-humidifier and heat to ensure successful drying.
Laundry and Potwash
The laundry and potwash building is also located outside near the campsite and cabins. The laundry machine is token-operated, tokens can be purchased in the Bothy Bar. The potwash has both hot and cold water taps.
Free hot showers are available for all cabin and camping guests. They are located next to the drying room at the back of the hotel, about a 30 metre walk from the camping and cabin area.
Travel-Lite / AMS Bag Service
We are a designated shop for both Travel-Lite and AMS Bag Service. Both companies will transfer your luggage between your accommodation while you are walking the West Highland Way. In October Gemini Walks also provide this service.
Amazing biking roads
Literally on our doorstep is the Kinlochleven loop (known locally as the 'Scotburgring'). We heartily reccommend a couple of laps around here before breakfast, then with miles and miles of stunning, quiet roads to explore the world is literally your oyster.
Bends, twists, bumps and views - it really is utterly brilliant. The perfect biking destination? The Highlands is probably about as close as you'll find.
The area is debatably one of the most scenic in Scotland so you're simply spoilt for views when exploring on your motorcycle.
West Highland Way
The main activity around Kinlochleven is the West Highland Way, Scotland's most famous long distance walking path, which extends from Glasgow to Fort William. However, there are a number of other activities in and around Kinlochleven which are easily accessible from the hotel.
Other local activities
An abundance of cycling, water sports, and winter sports can be found in the area.
There are ten Munros (Scottish mountain with a height over 3,000 ft) in the Mamore Mountains which rise from Kinlochleven. Beyond these are innumerable challenges for all types of climbers.
The Ice Factor
The world's largest indoor ice climbing site is just along the road from the MacDonald Hotel.
There are numerous well formed paths into the hills behind Kinlochleven, not least of which the West Highland Way. Another path passes the old aluminium factory's tailrace up to the Black Water Dam, an hour's trek from the MacDonald Hotel, in Kinlochleven.
