What would you do?

Just thinking about it: what would you do to get the money to make your biking dream a reality? Change jobs? Give up smoking? Give up drinking? Take the cash out of the family budget, so you’re all eating basics meals and the kids don’t get new phones? Sell a kidney, or a relative?

I’ve pledged to stop snacking. I worked out I’m putting the better part of three quid a day in into vending machines when I’m on site. It’s 80p, if not a quid, for a bag of crisps or a bar of chocolate in most of the places I visit. I’ll normally have crisps in the morning and a bar of choccy in the afternoon, to keep the energy up… well, too often I’ll have two snacks in the afternoon.

Okay, only half my week is spent in that kind of environment, most of the time. But even so… that’s a lot of money.

So I’m putting aside a tenner a week (well, £40 a month) that won’t go on snacks and will go into my day-dream savings pot. If I get any extra bonuses (hello Mr Taxman, can we say “rebate”?) those will go in there as well.

I know it’s going to take me ages to get to my target of £15k, but the sooner I start, the sooner I’ll get there.
