Barry’s Scheme

7th August 2014 by  in The Dex Files

My old mucker Barry the Builder has two bikes. Both of them are Triumphs. One’s a proper classic Bonneville, one of the first unit-construction jobs from 1963. Coming to the Isle of Man that is, and riding the TT course with all its inherent dangers and pitfalls. I awoke from a great night here in Middle Farm B&B near Shaftesbury. This really is a perfect little retreat for an individual or a couple on a touring trip together. Trevor and Linda are perfect hosts and the little self-contained annex would be self-catering if it wasn’t for the fridge full of goodies to  [Read full post…]

Wildlife, twisty roads and Hairy Hands on Dartmoor

2nd May 2013 by  in Motorcycle Touring & Travel

Tonight I am in Ilfracombe, in North West Devon, having trekked northward from Dartmoor. Desolation swapped for sea views and sea gulls and their yellowy white payloads. I was struggling with both time and WiFi signal while in Dartmoor, so let me just summarise it now; it’s fantastic. Riding across the wasteland, the ground is  [Read full post…]
