IOMTT 2017 – John McGuinness, what a man!

10th June 2017 by  in Daily Digest, Racing

IOMTT 2017 – In addition to receiving a standing ovation as he, together with his family, boarded the Mannanan at Liverpool dock, John McGuinness has been his usual giving self. As per normal he is in demand for interviews, PR cameos and glad-handing the great and good, plus queues of autograph hunters. A couple of days  [Read full post…]

IOMTT 2017 – Who left the shower on?!

8th June 2017 by  in Daily Digest, Racing, Rants & Raves

IOMTT 2017 – Just back from a trip up to the summit of Snaefell this afternoon on the electric railway, (I’m something of a control freak and I find the lurching, rickety, and somewhat decrepit Mountain railway a test of calm), having been assured, by my Chief Sector Marshal, (an authority on all matters Manx), that  [Read full post…]

IOMTT 2017 – Use your mirrors!

4th June 2017 by  in Daily Digest, Rants & Raves

IOMTT 2017 – Earlier today I managed laps five and six, the first of which was the usual quiet lap with very little company, (notable primarily for a rather fine young hare who kept me company along through Crosby Leap). The second rated as the first, “proper”, lap – lots of other bikes, and we  [Read full post…]

IOMTT 2017 – Ride Safe People!

1st June 2017 by  in Daily Digest, Rants & Raves

IOMTT 2017 – “Am I getting even more curmudgeonly as time goes by?” Is a question I find myself posing ever more frequently – some of the standards of riding I see on the Island are stunningly subterranean. Riders coming toward you with full beam blinding you, (making it as difficult as possible to judge  [Read full post…]

This island makes you think on

6th June 2015 by  in Daily Digest, Racing

The island has a way of enticing you into its soul, inverting your reality, and presenting you with a view of yourself that jars with your preconceived notions of who, why, what, and how you are. This process is one of the reasons that I find the place so addictive – Mona’s Isle is timeless,  [Read full post…]

More rain…

31st May 2015 by  in Motorcycle Touring & Travel, Racing

Just, JUST as soon as I see an opportunity to get out and complete a lap, a first of 2015 lap of the Mountain Course, hove into view across the Irish Sea, just as soon as I move in the general direction of my leathers – it piddles down! I’ve been on the island for  [Read full post…]

Couldn’t someone have asked someone?!

2nd July 2014 by  in Rants & Raves

This weekend the Tour de France, Grande Depart, comes to God’s own county (Yorkshire), and don’t we know it. The A65, as it passes us, will be closed to all traffic @ 05:30, pedestrian access to the road will be prohibited from 09:50, something described as, “the caravan”, comes through @ 10:20, the caravan is  [Read full post…]

Steve Hislop Statue

5th June 2014 by  in Motorcycle Touring & Travel, Racing

Yesterday’s race programme was cut in half, (good decision by the excellent Gary Thompson), thanks to the changing weather pattern. So I used the time to pay my respects to a son of Hawick. I missed  seeing Steve Hislop ride the Mountain Course and would have loved to have witnessed his epic battles with Foggy  [Read full post…]

Ever wondered what happens to all those used race tyres at the TT?

3rd June 2014 by  in Daily Digest

Well here is your answer! If you fancy clambering into one of these skips you can probably help yourself to as many used TT race tyres as you can carry.  And, if you want a “matched” pair a friendly word to one of the tyre technicians might result in you leaving with a set of  [Read full post…]
