France: the final bit

Our last day in France was a bit of a surprise. I was expecting it to be mostly dull getting-to-the-port kind of riding. In fact, it was really enjoyable getting-to-the-port riding. More straight roads (especially around the Loire). We cut through Blois, which was pretty hectic, but mostly it was a relaxing ride.

We got to Caen quite a bit early for our overnight sailing, so we went to Pegasus Bridge and then to Franceville-Plage for a slap-up meal. Of course, then Dale Caesar panicked that we’d miss the boat, so it was a mad scramble out of the restaurant and back to Ouistreham for the ferry… where we were still stood in the queue for 50 minutes because, of course, there was no danger of missing the boat!

We got back on Sunday morning with loads of time. I was back home, washing the bike and babbling to The Fair Lady Scully before lunchtime.

What a great trip. It’s on the RiDE website called the Limousin, Auvergne and Cevennes tour. The days are fairly long but I’d recommend it to anyone who thinks they’ve seen all the good bits of France. Until you’ve seen this stuff, you haven’t seen it all.
