France Day Two: Volcanoes

Now that was a great day’s riding. A long one, but definitely worth it.

We were on the bikes promptly at 9am (for our 8:30 start) and off into the hills of the Limousin – honestly, there’s hardly anyone else on the roads and it’s just bend after bend after bend, gradually climbing all the time.

The route took us into the Auvergne – over a dormant volcano called Puy Mary (proper hairpins, great views, bit bumpy) before twisting away down and south. Most of the roads had really good surfaces and a lot of corners. But some of them were proper out-of-the-way, narrow, bumpy ones – great to ride but I’ve no idea how they found them. Glad they did, though. Made for a memorable day’s ride.

Now we’re in Mende, which is a great little town. We’re not eating in the hotel but heading out to explore.
