Day three on the road

Well that was a big day. The last leg of my three-day Great North-ish Run.

Crewe to Wolverhampton was a great way to start the day: A529 from Nantwich was an anti-dote to all the busy, semi-urban roads I’d done around Manchester. I was full of beans when I got to the client. Better still, I got what looks like being a big gig.

Common sense says that from Wolverhampton, you take the M42 and M40 to get to Oxford. Biker sense says, screw that – it’s dull.

My route was down to Kidderminster and Worcester (A449), then over to Stow on the Wold and Burford (A44 and A424) and into the city on the A40. There are more imaginative routes through the Cotswolds, but that was good enough when time was against me.

I confess, that was the end of my efforts at good riding. My last meeting was in Newbury, so that was a blast down the A34, then home. In better weather and with the sun in the sky for longer, I’d have looked for a good route. Yesterday, it was just functional: A339 to Basing-grad, A287 to Farnham, A31 and A3 to the M25 and then the fast way back.

Still, it’s been a good week. Lots of miles, lots of work – and the kind of work that means I’ll have to put lots more miles in. It’s going to be a great summer for riding the bikes.
