Thoughts from abroad.
Now that I’m back home, (and faced with the detritus of two weeks away, a bike that needs a good clean & fettle, grass & hedges gone feral, etc), I’ve some room to think back on this year’s Manx.
Apart from the inestimable Michael Dunlop and his blinding pace, apart from the stunning machinery on display, (the Egli remains my first choice), apart from the camaraderie, apart from the generosity of friends who continue to put up with me breaking bits of their home, (sorry Sarah!), and apart from the craic, for me the highlight of this year has been this man:

Chris Mitchell has achieved something genuinely extraordinary in a field of endeavour that is used to feats of heroism and treats such almost as commonplace. I saw him last year competing on the Billown circuit and I thought that he was awesome then, but now, having logged a 100mph lap, completed several 150 mile races, and finished 11th in the newcomers race and 37th in the Supertwins!
If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes……..
Sometimes real life just amazes you, such is road racing, the Manx and the Isle of Man.
All the best, Jim
