A biking home-movie

I don’t know about you, but I always seem to run out of time at Christmas. There’s so much to do, but so little time. Everything seems to telescope into this final week. There’s work stuff. Family stuff. More importantly, there’s bike stuff.

A couple of our guys had GoPros on this year’s trip. Noddy wanted to edit the footage together to make some kid of movie and – naturally – assumed I must know all about this stuff because I work in IT.

Still, somehow I got a few hours to drop in on him and see if I could help. I couldn’t. Not really. I’ve never seen this software before. Getting all the clips into the computer seems to take an age and manipulating them demands plenty of processing power. Still, we hammered some bits together in a way that he was happy with. We sat back at last and hit play‚Ķ

And that’s when I realised: I can’t stand on-board motorcycle footage. I mean, it’s great in racing. But we’re not racers – just middle-aged blokes on touring bikes. There’s no drama, just a view over the clocks to some roads. Mile after mile of roads. And I get a bit motion-sick watching it.

Someone, somewhere, must know how to make this stuff look cool. There must be a trick to it. I need to know before next year’s trip, so we can make an interesting biking home-movie.
