I spent an hour on TripAdvisor and a couple of hotel-finding websites this morning, sorting our accommodation for the Spain trip.

After all the talk of plotting our own routes and exploring, we’re going to follow the six-day tour of the Picos de Europa from the RiDE Guide to Europe. Our crossings mean we get an extra day there so we can take one of their daytrip rides. I booked us in for two nights in Luarca, as the hotel and town looked real nice. The ride around there looks good too.

Of course, the guys can still come up with different routes between the hotels if they want, but the RiDE tour at least gives us a framework – and I’m inclined to follow their routes anyway. They’ve been tried and tested, so I reckon it just makes sense to go with those for our first trip to the Picos. Besides, it was the magazine that got me fired up to go over there in the first place. And it stops all the discussions and the dithering about where to go and where to stay, which had been driving me mad.

The best bit? I got it all sorted for about a third less than we spent on hotels on last year’s trip to Switzerland.
